Thanks to everyone who participated in dunegrass 2009. We had a blast and look forward to an even better 2010!
This will be the 18th Annual “Sleeping Bear Dunegrass and Blues Festival”. Located near beautiful Empire, MI. , Lake Michigan and the world famous Sleeping Bear Dunes.
This beautiful location offers more than 30 acres of property for parking, primitive camping, food and craft vendors, safety services, kids tent, and so much more!
Come spend the weekend and enjoy the beaches of Lake Michigan and if you’re real adventurous, go for a hike on the Sleeping Bear Dunes!

Howdy,
Michigan is my home state but I’ve been living in the west since the mid 90’s. Dunegrass 2008 was my first and I had such an incredibly fun time. First rate festival and one of the best I’ve ever been to. Any chance your going to get Donna the Buffalo this time around?
Not this year but we hope to get them back next year.
The weather was not great for the Beach and the Shuttle driver seem to have orders for beach runs only. Although she was parked in front of our camp and gave us rides the store as long as we had a beach towel in tow. I know it is an added expense but to cover your ass againist future problems I would recommend not only beach shuttle but encourage all downtown trips by shuttle. WE LOVE DUNEGRASS so whatever happens we are in.
That’s a great idea…we’ll let them know this year to give people the option to get off in town. Thanks for the suggestion!
I wish I would have gone last year. I completely regret it, but this year I am for sure going. Do you know yet if UV Hippo is planning to return?
I did not go to Dunegrass last year(09) but like hearing how people responded to the new location. Thanks for all your hard work to keep it going.
Question; Just curious if there was a shuttle bus offerd from the new location to Lake Michigan beach?? I really enjoy having the opportunity to get to the beach and not having to drive.
Hi Gail,
We did have the shuttle last year but hardly anyone used it. It is unclear at this point if we will have them back in 2010. Have a wonderful new year!
Ryan
this was only my third dunegrass expirience and you guys did an amazing job this year the new location is awesome there is so much potential i hope you guys can make it happen again next year and as soon as i know for sure that it is going on ill spread the word as much as possible
Excellent 2009 festival, people. We didn’t know quite what to expect this year, but you guys and gals who organized it got it just right: big enough to be exciting yet small enough to be convenient and personal. Dunegrass has been a tremendously positive family experience for my kids and myself for a few years running now, and we’ll see you next year!
hugs,
Warren
Thanks Warren! We’re so excited about 2010, we’ll see you there.

Hey Tony,
Phil here. I’m the drummer for The Bearded. Glad you liked our music. If you google The Bearded and Knoxville together, you’ll find lots of info on The Bearded, including how to get some music.
Play on!
Hi, had a great time at the festival. I would like to get my hands on some of the music from “The Bearded”. I have looked but cant find any??? Any help would be great..
How much just for one day pass?
The article below appeared in today’s Detroit Free Press Play section:
Dunegrass: Michigan’s Dunegrass Music Festival is set for Friday-Sunday and features a good chunk of local music on its three-day roster.
The annual northwest Michigan music festival, now in its 17th year, is welcoming local music from, the Deadstring Brothers, the Ragbirds, Covert Operations, the Macpodz, Whitey Morgan, Billy Brandt, My Dear Disco and others to its home on the Empire Eagles Club property on M-72 about 6 miles east of Empire, Mich.
Camping, food, crafts, kids activities and two stages of music will be featured on more than 20 acres of property. Tickets at the gate are $85 for a weekend pass. For more: http://www.dunegrass3.org.
Hey Ryan
I understand all the surrounding issues with DG 09 and applaud your efforts and those of all who have taken on the enormous task of putting it together. You can’t please everyone! Keep pulling, there’s a solid group of supporters behind you!!
Thanks buddy!
deadschwa,
I’m not sure if you are aware, but having the same production and location was not really an option this year. I’m sure if you decide to come, you will have a great time and see that the lineup is far from being lame.
I’m hoping a map of the new Dunegrass site will show up, so folks can get an idea of the Festival grounds. I’ve posted a few photos of the entrance to the new Festival site, taken 7-16-09, which are on the facebook *The Dunegrass Festival* group. It’s a beautiful spot in the country.
I’ve also posted many photos from Dunegrass 2008 at that same group so you may want to check them out.
Here’s a link to those photos on facebook.

Yes, we will have a map up soon. we just secured over 20 additional acres for car camping, so things really opened up. The layout has been determined and will be available soon.
Clayton,
We will have family camping! There was another post on this, but yes, there will be. There are off site campgrounds very near to the site as well.
i’m seeing alot of ?’s about the family camping, quiet times, and i asked about the off sites of years before, but i don’t see the answers yet. am i looking in the wrong place?
